MatchBox Models of YesterYear
MatchBox Models of YesterYear ring in your memory and always bring a smile to your face. There is something magical about MatchBox cars because almost everyone has early child hood memories of having played with one, two or many. For the older people among us there are memories of the really durable cars made in England by Lesney and the slow transition to HotWheels. No matter where your childhood was on the timeline, chances are you have memories of those little tiny MatchBox cars.
MatchBox Models of YesterYearWhat struck me about my ancient collection from the 1950′s and the 1960′s and the 1970′s (I had 3 older brothers) is that even after not seeing them for years, I can remember that this one was missing a wheel or that one had a hood that opened and closed. The reality is that despite the fact that all of my cars are torn up and scratched, it is only because I loved them so much. I spent hours upon hours driving daring getaways and laps around the oval rug in the hallway. Despite the fact that I no longer play with them, I still hold the memories close to me and the boxes are still in my closet to this day. My brothers are jealous that Mom gave them to me, but they will get over it, or at least I hope.
This site really is just a dedication of sort to the years of my youth and the time spent “varoooming” around almost anything with my toy cars. Some may say that a MatchBox car that is scratched up is not worth much, but I will choose to not agree. Each of the cars that are in my possession have earned a spot to be there. Granted the original packaging would be nice to have, but what kid cared? I feel that it is safe to say that if a MatchBox car from years ago is in mint condition, it never gave pleasure to a child. If a MatchBox car has no scratches and no dings, then the car never brought joy to the soul of a child.
Sure a mint condition MatchBox in the original box may be worth more, but none of them would be worth more to me than the old set that is resting in the closet in my room. Those MatchBox are not only worth more to me…they are priceless.
I Need A Price Guide For My Cars
I have a large collection of Hot wheels, Matchbox and die cast cars I want to sell but cant find a reputable price guide to determine individual value for each piece. I have approximately 2500 pieces in my collection but haven’t found anybody who publishes a guide aimed at the hobby.
